Hull regeneration project shortlisted for two RICS Awards 2015, Pro Yorkshire

Chartered Building Surveyors from East Yorkshire, Delaney Marling Partnership have been shortlisted for two RICS Awards at the Pro Yorkshire ceremony in York this Friday. The Company entered into two categories – Regeneration and Residential with the Lion House project in partnership with Probe (Hull) Limited.

Phil Spencer, property expert and television presenter will host the Pro Yorkshire Awards ceremony which will showcase the achievements of the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the environment.

Regarded as the premier property and construction Awards in the country, The RICS brings together the most innovative projects in the region and awards the very best entries across eight categories.

The Hull based regeneration initiative, project managed by Delaney Marling was the Lion Hotel in the heart of Hessle Road. Now known as Lion House, the derelict building had previously been a popular pub in the city but had stood empty since the 1980s and has now been transformed into seven multiple occupancy apartments by Probe Homes, as part of the Government’s Empty Homes Programme. The initiative aimed at providing excellent quality living accommodation offers affordable housing to those who need it most.

Kevin Marling, a Partner at Delaney Marling Partnership Ltd say:
“We became involved with the project after being approached by Probe to carry out a full structural survey of the property followed by a feasibility study.”

“We undertook the feasibility study and calculated the costs of the extensive repairs and refurbishment needed to bring the building back into use, as well as to evaluate the client’s funding streams.”

“After Probe gained planning permission on the scheme we managed a project team from specification, tendering, building works from design to completion. We also undertook the role of Construction Design and Management Consultants.”

“When works began on the building there were a lot of challenges due to the plethora of fire damage and vandalism. The previous owners of the property began renovating the building but due to lack of funds did not complete the process.”

“It is very important to us to have been nominated for the RICS Awards. It is great recognition of smaller firms like ours working within the industry. We are now leading the campaign of renovating empty properties in Hull and so it is great to be recognised for bringing these properties back to life.”

The awards will be announced at the event this Friday 15 May 2015.
